I too am biking for weight loss. 8 miles a day on a stationary bike - I have a no excuses policy.

One thing I have learned is to stretch before and after for maximum performance, decreased chance of injury and ultimate burn.

Hiya,

I've just started going to my local gym and am looking at buying a heart rate monitor....Polar seem to be the most popular.

My question, can you buy one that works WITHOUT having to use the strap that goes around the chest? I find it really uncomfortable to wear a chest strap when working out

Suggestions welcome

Ta

Hi Sam,

I personally used polar F11 and I use it a lot, specially during my cardio. It helps you to keep track on how many calories you have burnt, your heart rate (of course), your cardio plan etc.

If you prefer one without strap, I have seen several other heart rate monitor without the strap. But I dont think the reading will be as accurate as the one that use the strap.

one at ebay - with no strap

look up Suunto watch etc. You get what is called a training effect witch basically tells you when you have done a good workout or lazy one. Lots of other advantages over the Ploar e.g. battery replacement etc.

yes you can. I don t know if Polar sells them though. However w/o the strap u cannot get a continous reading of ur HR. So the few minutes of discomfort will be worth it once you see the fat melt away. I have a few left over from a batch that i bought for a group bootcamp class. If you are looking for a trainer I can work a nice deal with you as well as teach you how to use it to maximize ur results.

Actually, there is one heart rate monitor that is continuous and strapless. It s called ePulse and works great. Do a search for ePulse heart rate monitor on Google and you ll find it.

Hi. I m new to this group and to the program. Right now I am trying to lose weight. I have put on about 78 pounds since I was diagnosed with clinical depression in 2002. I finally feel like I have a good handle on my illness and am looking forward to the rewards of weight loss.

I look forward to getting to know some of you.

20 pound club - Posted by marieta (1 Reply, Updated 12/26/2006 01:19:58)

Here's an idea we started at work--a 20 pounder club. We each put $1 in the hat to begin. We weigh ourselves each Monday morning. If I lose weight or stay the same, I don't have to pay anything for the week. If I gain, I put $1 in for every pound. The first person to lose 20 lbs and keep it off 3 months gets all the cash. It's motivation...
