I have recently joined a GYM 20 days back. My height is 176 cms and I weigh 60 kgs. I do workout for 1hr 15 min everyday. my regular diet includes:
4 boiled eggs
200ml milk
5 cashewnuts
200 gm rice
100 gm meat (Poultry)
Even after 20 days, I have increased by only 1 kg and now I have decided to go for supplements. Pls suggest me some supplements without any side effects.

1) Increase your calories, either by adding more food to your diet, adding meal replacement/weight gainer shake or two each day
2) Cut back on the amount of time you spend in the gym a little bit
A weight gainer or meal replacement shake right before bed will probably help a little. I use the 'Muscle Milk' shakes by Cytosport. They taste great, and with milk, add around 600 calories per serving.
Also, more than an hour each day in the gym seems like an awful lot. Most people trying to gain weight try to spend the least amount of time possible in the gym that is required to get a good hard workout (aim for around 45 minutes). I wouldn't work out more than 3 or 4 times per week, and I'd stick to basic compound exercises, like squats, dips, chins, bench, or whatever compound exercises you like.
Isolation exercises burn energy/calories, and don't give you much in return, since you're only hitting one body part at a time. They also require longer workouts to hit all the bodyparts you want, versus compound exercises.

Help newbie - Posted by twelvesteppenwolf (1 Reply, Updated 06/13/2009 06:18:57) | (Log in to post your reply) | twelvesteppenwolf | 01/26/2007 01:03:44 | Message I am a 49 yo male. I have been going to the gym for about 6 months doing whatever felt right, and trying to get "fit" in general. I have been using a meal replacement and high protien/low carb diet with mostly medium cardio, low weight workouts. That means lots of time in the gym but great weight loss. I have gone from 106KGS to 80KGS since August the 3rd 2006. I have since gone on to the 6 meals a day high protien/low carb/ calorie restriction diet. I have dropped the meal relacement stuff, but am blowing out on diet youghurt. Weight training makes you sooooooooooooo hungry. I am having trouble maintaining the weight loss and have put on a few kilos but also have obviously gained muscle weight. I am interested in supplements to lower body fat content( i wanna see my six pack before I die ) and increase muscle but do not want to increase in size. The ideal build I am looking for is like Edward Norton in American History X or the Fight Club cut look. I cant seem to find information in the mags for this kind of build. Any help would be appreciated. Supplements or programs etc. Are there any legal boosters available in Australia that I can use to suppress appetite or help with training when i am tired. Is creatine a good thing? Does it work? Any other suggestions/supplements?

Most Whey Protein Brand include Sucralose... - Posted by napoleon (1 Reply, Updated 04/11/2009 02:36:19) | (Log in to post your reply) | napoleon | 11/18/2008 02:43:41 | Message Any one who has searched among the wide variety of whey protein options may have noticed (as I have), that many of them contain Sucralose, a.k.a Splenda in their list of ingredients. I have read quite a bit of negative information about this product, and have made a decision not to consume it if at all possible. Is their anyone out there that shares my sentiment, and if so, would you mind recommending a few quality brands with plain old regular sugar added (or even better UNSWEETENED)?

Re: Creatine - Posted by bigmike | (Log in to post your reply) | bigmike | 08/14/2006 02:56:42 | Message Take it now...why buy it if you are not going to use it?
I use it along with Nitrex, simialar to another post. The effect of the creatine being forced into the muscle with proper hydration and the Nitrex being force into the mucles through the blood stream has had two profound effects on my results. A - the size is increasing at a rate faster than I have ever experienced and B - I am losing fat without losing lean muscle mass. Suppliments are not cheap...if you buy it use it!!!

Re: Creatine - Posted by matt | (Log in to post your reply) | matt | 10/09/2006 06:03:48 | Message I don't currently use it, be every time I have, I've noticed a difference within a week or so. I get a little more strength, and my muscles feel a little fuller all the time. Just be careful not to take TOO much. The first time I took it, the instructions said to take something like a teaspoon, and I was accidentally using a tablespoon. I kept having pain in my kidneys till I figured out I was taking too much. Also, I've had it cause stomach cramps before (which is why I don't take it anymore).

Re: Creatine - Posted by kevinclark10 | (Log in to post your reply) | kevinclark10 | 07/13/2007 10:22:26 | Message Creatine is an excellent supplement. It helps with filling the muscles with blood and with me it makes me do another rep when I m tired. I m sure the instructions say to start with a loading dose but that is not necessary. Just take about 5 grams a day I take it after my workout and have good results. It s gradual though so give it a little time.

Re: whey/casein - Posted by budomushin | (Log in to post your reply) | budomushin | 05/13/2007 08:11:53 | Message Whey is a high quality protein of Biological Value (BV) 100% from what i could remember, meaning that it contains all the essential (not made by the body) and non-essential (can be made by the body) amino acids (the molecules which make up proteins) and in higher concentrations and readiliy absorbed by the body. There are three main types which you see in the market at the moment; these being, whey protein isolate, concentrate, and hydrolysate:
1. Concentrate contains low levels of fat and cholesterol but generally higher levels of bioactive compounds. (29-89% protein by weight)
2. Isolate are processed to remove fat and lactose however the bioactive compounds are reduced. (90%+ protein by weight)
3. Hydrolysates these are partially hydrolyzed to make absorption easier, the cost is usually higher.
The way to use whey (lol how funny the english language is huh) is directly after workouts because it is a fast digesting protein. In addition, after a workout your body is in a very high anabolic (growth) state thus alot of muscular synthesis will occur if fed with protein it needs to get the ball rolling. However, after 2 hours or less the effect of way usually go away because there digestion is so quickly. So its great to take directly after training.
Casein is the most predominant phosoprotein found in milk and cheese, with a lower BV than Whey (BV 80%); hence quality wise whey is better and more soluble than casein. Casein is a slow digesting; therefore, amino acids are released slowly for protein synthesis to occur. Thus, casein should be used during the night time like just before bed to increase recovery aspects. In that, during sleep recovery is at its highest, and recovery is where the real mass building occurs thats why many fitness professionals administer sleep to most trainees who find themselves at a plateau (a place of no progress). Another time to use it could be hours before workout depending on when you train like that mid-day shake. So you keep a sustain flow of protein delivery to the muscular system. Some persons also utilize it after training along with the whey so there is a anabolic boost then a sustained period of anabolism occuring. Therefore, from this we get that the good thing about casein is its ability to reduce catabolism (the breakdown of protein for energy, which leads to muscle wasting (decrease in muscle size)), this is not only due to its slow release during sleep but also its high levels of an amino acid glutamine. Glutamine aids in reducing muscular cramps and pains (such as lactic acid build up), also Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) which might not be necessarily be related to lactic acid build up but due to micro tears/trauma of the muscle. From what i could remember glutamine produces L-cartinine which reacts with lactic acid to neutralized it acting as a buffer. In addition, glutamine allows an influx of amino acids when there are low concentrations within the muscles.
Thats bout it, hope i didnt leave out anything

Re: whey/casein - Posted by kevinclark10 | (Log in to post your reply) | kevinclark10 | 07/13/2007 10:20:00 | Message Whey is a fast release protein best for post workouts. Caesin is a more slow releasing protein good for right before bed to spare protein and keep you in an anabolic state longer. Kc

Used by over 300 Professional & World Class Athletes - Posted by hittowin (3 Replies, Updated 05/07/2007 03:12:58) | (Log in to post your reply) | hittowin | 10/18/2006 10:29:53 | Message After attending several different nutritional seminars viewing different companies and product lines, non-that offered any value, I finally found Advocare. I took only two of the products, MNS and Spark and lost over 20 lbs. I felt great! I was able to get back to the gym and started taking the performance line, (used by all 300 World-Class athletes.) My workout time went from 45 minutes back to almost two hours each time. When this occurred I was able to shed another 16lbs.
to date, at the age of 47, I have lost a total of 36 lbs and continue to take off the extra weight to reach my goal of 200 lbs. From a 42 in waist back down to a 38-inch waist and more energy then I ever had before.
What makes these products different are the people who make them.
Trust me 300 Professional Athletes can afford and choose to put whatever they want into their bodies. They choose our products because they work and are based on sound nutrition. I have lost 40lbs and have kept if off for over 3 years.
World Class product is an under statement
