Exercise Program - Posted by licinda

Hello,

I would like to know which program I can follow. I would like to loose a bit more centimeters and tone.

I have a step and tone class on a Tuesday and 2 bums and tum classes (Wednesday and Friday) during a week.

I would like to know what muscle group(s) I can target on a Monday and Thursday - and maybe on a Sunday. So that I still give my muscle the amount of time that it needs to relax before exercising that muscle group again.

Looking forward to your reply!

Licinda

When lifting to build up sometimes you hit a WALL . By this I mean you get to a point where the target muscle wont seem to grow and/or get stronger.

My advice to avoid this is the following:

- Change your workouts for each muscle group regular, DON T do same thing week in week out

- Have a few heavy/Low Rep weeks followed by a few light/High Rep weeks.

- If the you are only using machines to hit the muscle group go back to free weights but it works both ways too if your using free weights only through a couple of machines in too.

Basically you need to shock your body, make it do something it don t do in your normal work out. Vary weights and moves even something so small as to how you grip a barbell can be enough for the change to work.

If you want let me know what work out you do and I will see if I can add some suggestions your way.

P.S.

A good chest work out is to break the three parts of the chest muscles down and work each one. A basic example is on the following website: http://www.myfit.ca/fitnessprograms/viewprogram.asp?title=Chest&programid=979

Like I said its basic but it should give you some ideas.

I would figure out what it is you want to get from working out (lose weight, gain muscle, strength), and then set specific goals toward that.

Also, maybe you should alternate workouts with other activity that s good for you, but maybe less boring. Lift weights one day, then next workout play basketball or tennis. Working out doesn t have to mean running on a treadmill for 45 minutes.

If you find a workout partner, that would probably help out a lot too.

Hiya,

I've just started going to my local gym and am looking at buying a heart rate monitor....Polar seem to be the most popular.

My question, can you buy one that works WITHOUT having to use the strap that goes around the chest? I find it really uncomfortable to wear a chest strap when working out

Suggestions welcome

Yes they do. But the non strap versions fall into two catagories. Expensive (plus $200) and Stop and Put your fingers on the watch. I tried one of those and thought it was very scary to do while riding a bike. In the end I opted for a Timex version with a stap. The base model was only $49.00 or so.
How to take measurements on chest and back? - Posted by imjscn

For chest, I wrap the tape around my chest as high under my arms as possible, and that s the measurement of chest, right? or, I should measure only the front of my chest from under one armpit to under the other?

For back, is that from shoulder to shoulder? or can I just calculate it as 1/3 of the full chest?

Thanks for helping!

Hi all,

I have a question regarding fixing what I assume is muscle imbalance.

I have been working out for only a short period of time ( 2.5 months - 3-4 days a week (weights) plus 20 - 30 minutes of Cardio per session) and I have started to notice that my right side is becoming more shaped and defined than my left. I switched as many of my routines from Barbell routines to Dumbbell routines in the hope of making each muscle group to work out independantly, assuming that my stronger side (right side) was assisting. This does not appear to be making much difference. I have tried heavier weights on my left hand side (for the past 3 weeks) hoping that I would start to see some difference but again to no avail. Is there something else that I can try?

Regards

Steven.

One thing I ve noticed that can make a difference is how much you re focusing on the muscle that s being worked. For instance, if you just do chinups trying to pull yourself up...you re back may not get that much of a workout. But if you focus on your lats pulling your elbows down...you re lats get a much better workout.

Maybe if you re right-handed, your automatically focusing more on your right bicep, but when you do the left-handed curl, you re just pulling the weight up, not really focusing on the bicep?? Just a thought.

I broke my tibia in a motorcycle wreck back in March. The cardio training I had been doing prior to the wreck saved my life-literally. I had a pulmonary embolism that a doctor said would have been fatal except for my lung capacity and cardio strength.

I'm now back in the gym working on getting back in shape. I'm back on the elliptical trainer doing 20 minutes a pop with a goal of getting back to the hour total I was doing and reducing the heart rate during the training.

On the other hand, if someone has suggestions for rehabbing the leg besides light leg press, leg extension and toe raise, I'm game.

Right now I cannot do a single toe raise standing on one leg. I'm a sportsman as well so this is an issue for trudging thru the woods.

Personally, I feel that this interface has a lot to offer; but is currently clunky and obscure.

Wouldn't it be nice if Google Labs bought it out and turned it into something much more worthwhile? We can only hope.

Until then, keep up the good work.

Hey Matt,

Very nice program, excellent. I love the way you have brought together all of the component parts of a healthy lifestyle into a single user interface. This is a definite purchase for me. I just started the trial but I will buy probably long before it expires. Great work!

I was wondering if you might be willing to consider the following change requests, with the first being of greater import than the latter:

In the food list section, in addition to the browse by scroll bar - could you introduce a search feature - perhaps similar to the one used in firefox that would limit your choices quickly based on a few letters. I find with long lists that I spend a lot of time scrolling back and forth and a search would streamline that process greatly.

Secondly, and this is more difficult I believe... Is there a possibility that new foods could be -1 ) stored under a custom foods lists, and 2) that these custom lists could be exported and perhaps imported from a centralized area.... I know that there are several challenges with this kind of Idea... but wanted to throw it out there to be considered.

Well, that's it'... good luck and I hope you are immensely succesful with the program.

The share online part... how complete is it? I can't tell from these forums if this is utilized much, and if it's something to think about when it comes time to decide to buy.

The copyright doesn't tell me how long the software and website has been around. I would like to know how long you guys have been in business.

Thanks

Hello,

We've been around for about 7 years now. Up until a month or so ago, our fitness software was called 'Personal Training Workstation'.

This online community is sort of a new extension to our fitness software, and to www.workoutware.com. It's just starting up (only been up for a month or so).

I can't tell whether you posted this through the website or through the software, but you can easily post messages, which include workouts, diets, charts, etc right from within the Open Fitness software.

This community serves 2 purposes. One is to let people publicly share information with others. The other purpose is to allow personal trainers to communicate privately with their clients (in which case, you won't see that information posted here)

How do I put "Juicy Juice - Berry" into the Diet Details? How about a "Zebra Cake?" Is there a way to write them in? Multiple choice seems... time consuming, at best.
