| Adding bettert reporting? - Posted by idelatorre | | (Log in to post your reply) | idelatorre | 11/22/2009 04:31:34 | Message: Hi,
I have been trying to measure progress in my workouts but the reporting function doesn t really do it for me, it only shows my first workout and last therefore missing number of workouts, calories burned, a chart on weight lifted by exercise, etc.
Are there any plans to build this functionality into the site?

| Help! I want to lose fat and keep muscle - Posted by anonymous (3 Replies, Updated 12/29/2008 03:08:46) | | (Log in to post your reply) | anonymous | 04/19/2008 06:30:40 | Message: Help me! I am a 32 year old male who has been lifiting weights since I was 14, but I have only gotten strict about it in the last 2 years since I started law school. I weigh 247, with a body fat of around 22. I lift 4 days a week, and try to work in cardio on off days, or at the end of my workout, but I have read a lot concerning if you mix cardio, it will cost your weight training. I am very proud of the strides I have made in the last year. 1 year ago, it was all I could do to bench 225, Friday I maxed out at 345. I have much more definition, but I know that dropping about 20lbs. of fat would do wonders. Any advice on how to proceed. I will admit that I have struggled with my diet over the years that along with some serious genetic issues from my family says that if I don t stay in some shape, my shape will quite simply be round . I m open to any advice on routine, diet, cardio, you name it.

That might be the key for you, it sounds like you are doing great with your workouts...nice bench! But, maybe you should start being very consistent with your diet (if you are not already). Then, after a week or two, start cutting out 100-200 calories a week until you notice your bodyfat start to go down. Once it starts going down, keep your diet the same until your bodyfat plateaus...or until you have lost the fat you want to lose.
Also, you might try lowering your salt/sodium intake, if you can...you might just drop a few pounds of water that way if you are taking in a lot of salt.

But you need to change it by the 20 reps exercise cicle routine. It consist in a 10 cicle compound exercises: squads, lunges, military press, deadlifts, bench press, push downs, rows, good morning, step ups and incline bench press. It is a program for 6 weeks, the first week use the 20 of your max rep, thesecond 40 of your max rep, the third week use the 50 , the fourth use the 60 , and the fifth and sixth try to use the 80 . This routine it s hard and need a lot of effort and decision. You need to do every cicle en 15 minutes, three sets every third they, I recomend you make the same exercises, one day whit dumbells and other they with your bar. Combine the off days with 45 minutes of cardio. This rutine increase the strenght, the muscle mass and burn about 800 cals during the routine , plus other x in the next 24 hours. REduce your intake calories and don t forget calculate you protein intake at 1.5 grs /kg. Make at least 5 little meals at a day. I m sure it will work for you and you will see the firsts results in the second week. Happy new year

I have an iBook G4 with OXS 10.3.9 Tiger
I can't get the software running on my iBook and haven't had any replies to several email inquiries. The workoutware site recommends to upgrade to OSX 10.4.4 Panther which will cost me $129 US. Before spending the money I'd like to make sure it will really work on a Mac platform.

| Re: Mac OSX 10.4.4 - Posted by matt | | (Log in to post your reply) | matt | 07/13/2007 04:35:54 | Message: If you are a mac user, I would consider using OpenFitness.net instead of the desktop software. Apple has a habit of putting out updates that break Java apps (which includes the Open Fitness desktop). It has happened several times in the past few years, and usually there isn t anything WE can fix, we just have to wait for Apple to put out another update.
That was part of the motivation behind OpenFitness.net, and I think it is turning out to be better than the desktop software anyway.

At Christmas I received a 3 month membership for a gym to which I went to 3 times a week - when posible - which is not over.
I want to continue working out at home but I don't have any machine or weight. Since there is no way I can follow what I was doing, can someone suggest some home exercises to keep in shape and still loose wait ?
Currently, I am walking 30-45 minutes per day only.

Cut off your hands and stitch your mouth!!
However if you dont want to do this extreme approach. Get the meaning behind it and oh yea! Kick yourself out and continue walking for the next 6 months to the Gym.
The kick yourself you can implement literally.

Unfortunately, with the first release of Open Fitness, we didn't put in a time limit when the software tries to connect to the Open Fitness Network. We need to put a 30 or 60 second time limit on there.

 | | Re: help - Posted by matt | | (Log in to post your reply) | matt | 10/31/2005 09:00:37 | Message: Every time I stop working out, I end up down in the 130s again and again. Each time I get the motivation to start working out, I do the 6 week routine I posted in the 'workouts' section on this board, and I always get great results. You can see the routine at:
http://www.openfitness.net/get_attachment.jsp?message_id=4&attachment_id=1&object_id=0
Or, if you want to download it into Open Fitness, just go to Bodybuilding / Workouts / 6 Week Routine under the community tab.
I'm on week 6, and believe it or not, I went from 137 pounds to 157 pounds so far. 20 pounds in 5 weeks! I'm around 9 percent bodyfat right now. I wish I had checked that at week 1, but I couldn't find my calipers.
I should point out that my job is not physically demanding (computer programmer). If you have to do a lot of physically demanding work, that 6 week routine might be a little much.
Also, as preparation (and to get your body used to the exercises), I'd do week 6 up front. Then, go back and do all 6 weeks.
