I only allowed myself 1200 calories a day (1000 if you dont exercise) and of course exercised and the weight would fall off. You could eat pretty much as much salad as you liked (which was a bonus) and I would steam, grill or cook on its own in a non stick pan all my chicken, fish etc. A george foreman has been my greatest present to myself. I found I would lose around a kilo in my first week (if I stuck to it, had NO bread and exercised lightly). If you aim to lose loads more than that, you certainly can but you will put it back on so much faster and it will be harder to lose the next time. You also risk your health. Calorie counting means you can eat an extremely healthy diet, get all your vitamins and nutrients and still tone up and lose.

| keeping track of my weight loss & how I've lost it - Posted by marieta (5 Replies, Updated 08/06/2007 06:52:41) | | (Log in to post your reply) | marieta | 09/18/2005 04:05:22 | Message: Have used this workoutware program to keep a record of my weight changes and body measurements for three weeks. I used to keep track of everything on sheets of paper--which invariably get lost in a stack of "important papers" that I'm too busy to sort through! I love this program! It never loses my notes and even reminds me how far I rode my bike each day, how long it took me to walk 3 miles, how much weight I lifted, # of reps, etc. Have never seen a more complete fitness program. It even keeps track of my calorie intake with ease! My question...my diet is pretty weak--does anyone have a good sound diet plan for working women who have little time to eat lunch? I'm not interested in diet drinks and pills! Thanks for any suggestions.

How's it going so far? I can relate to the lunch issue. Let me tell you eating out is the recipe for gaining weight unless you can order salads all the time with the dressing on the side. I either try to make a large enough dinner to bring leftovers or pick a frozen entree...they've gotten much better than in the past as far as flavor is concerned. I also try to pack my lunch when I'm making my daughter's lunch.
I work a 13 hour shift so I also try to pack all my snacks as well. Some ideas: protein powder in a shaker cup (just add water at work), cottage cheese and fruit, veggies and no fat dip (I mix tuna with fat free cream cheese and some horseradish...sounds gross but it works).
Hope this helps!

I really have to say I love the way the "Open Fitness" software keeps track of your food intake. Like if I type in the fat grams and calories for my SlimFast shake one time, it's there in the menu anytime I need to record it. It REALLY beats the paperwork I was doing to keep tabs on my calories and such.
Oh, by the way--I can't handle tuna fish, but I'm trying to get my lunch and snacks ready the night before. It does help me stay on the right path. Life is SO busy! Thanks!

Don't know if you are still looking at this info, but I successfully lost about 25 lbs using the semi-strick version of a lo-carb diet. The diet is actually easy once you start replacing your side dishes with salads, or veggies. No potatoes, carrots, candy, or anything with high carbs. Read labels and eat sweets with Splenda sweetener, and the pounds tend to come off. I like to say, "I'm GAINing trim" rather than LOSing weight. More positive.
However, you have to enter a lo-carb maintenance diet afterwards, or you'll put half what you lost back on. I did.

But the info there is of no help at all. It seems to assume a double entry for the same date--not involved here at all. The Diet Journal simply saves nothing for any date. Is this an incompatibility with OS-X 10.4.9, perhaps? I doubt it, since I have no trouble saving to the Weightlifting Journal or the Cardio Journal. -jack clark

But as soon as I "Save" it in the "Diet Details" window, Open Fitness entirely quits and does not save anything I entered. | Problem with my Diet Journal? - Posted by jack clark | | (Log in to post your reply) | jack clark | 04/21/2007 10:43:48 | Message: There's no "Add" button to add food to a meal on mine. Here are OF's instructions from their Help menu. They're not easy to follow because it appears they must have made changes to the program without updating their instructions. My comments to the instructions are in square brackets. You'll see that you get to a point when OF just quits. Any suggestions? Or am I the only one who has this problem, maybe?
To add a new diet, follow these steps...
• Create a new diet.
[• Click the "Diet" button]
• Click the Add button ["Add Day" button?]
• Set the date for this diet by clicking the Calendar button ["Date" button?]
• Add meals to the diet.
• Click the Add Meal button.
• [A pop-up window appears asking you to "Create Empty Meal" or "use Template." Select "Create Empty Meal," then click "Add Meal" in the pop-up window?] Now, the first meal is displayed in the Diet Day window.
• To add a food to the meal, click the Add Food button.
• Select the food from the food window and type in the number of servings.
• Click the Add button. [There IS NO "Add" button.]
• Continue adding foods until the meal is complete. [With no "Add" button, there is no way to do this.]
• Continue adding meals to the diet until the diet is complete. [I can't do this, either.]
• Click the Save button. [When I click "Save", Open Fitness completely quits and closes--the entire program. When I reopen it, it shows that my "Diet" has no entries in it at all.]
